How first or second language exams are structured

Each language course (first or second language) is divided into two components:

  • Lectures:delivered by the course instructor, they are organized on a semester or annual basis
  • Language Practice Sessions: conducted by the CLA, the University Language Center (except for the Chinese).

These sessions help students to achieve the required level of language proficiency.

This structure is designed to ensure students meet the proficiency levels required for their courses, culminating in the acquisition of a language proficiency certificate.

Recognition of external language certificates

If you obtain a language certificate from an external certifying body (e.g., Cervantes, Cambridge, Goethe), you must visit the CLA Testing Office to verify its equivalency and transfer the certification. .

Submission of language proficiency certificates

Your language professors will review your certificate and verify its validity and the score percentages. Important note: The scores from your language proficiency certificate cannot be recorded separately, as they are considered an integral part of the language exams. The score from your language proficiency certificate will influence the grade for portion of the exam taken with your professor, in accordance with the equivalencies outlined in the Student Handbook (Vademecum dello studente).
